Reporters praise menu at APEC media center's restaurant

During the initial days of the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Summit on the Russky Island in Vladivostok, foreign and Russian journalists spend their time between briefings and session at an International Media Center restaurant and keep praising Russian generosity, an Interfax correspondent said.

"For me this is already a third APEC summit. I worked at the forum in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2006, and in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. But nowhere the press have been treated to such meals. There, they offered mainly sandwiches, tea, coffee and juice. I have not seen such a treat anywhere else," a correspondent from a Japanese news agency told Interfax.

"Of course, it is damaging for the Russian budget but it demonstrates the famous Russian hospitality in all its beauty. I think foreign journalists will keep long good memories of the Russky Island," he added.

A Chinese television correspondent was also content with the restaurant's buffet menu.

"There is plenty of sea food, but that is probably normal for Vladivostok. It is cooked differently from Chinese dishes, it is rather more European here. But everything is very tasty. The variety is impressive, there is something new every day," the journalist said.

"One is spoiled for choice seeing all these treats. You want to try everything. Not one restaurant in Vladivostok offers such meals. And it is also free here," Russian journalists said.

The food variety is provided daily by seven chefs: one from France and six from St. Petersburg and Moscow.

Overall, the Media Center has several cafes that are open 24 hours and offer croissants, pies, sandwiches with tea, coffee or juice.
