Why you should go: A symphonic medley of orchestra, chorus, ballet and soloists from some of Russia’s most prestigious theatre disciplines, Le Saisons Russes du XXIe Siècle is an initiative pioneered by former Bolshoi Ballet star Andris Liepa that promises a visual and auditory feast of classic Russian compositions with their own contemporary timbre. Les Saisons Russes brings to London a repertoire including crowd-pleasers belonging to the Ballets Russes tradition, performed by the Moscow State Opera and Ballet named after Natalia Sats and featuring international guest stars. Two distinct programmes will be staged at the London Coliseum under the Diaghilev Festival umbrella: a series of performances of the triptych formed by Petrushka, Chopiniana and Polovtsian Dances between 11 and 12 July, and scenes from Coq d’Or, Polovtsian Dances and guest Ballet Stars virtuoso performances for the Diaghilev Gala on 13 July. Take your pick and see the magic of Diaghilev at work.
