Formula Drone racing to take place in Moscow

First official UAV championship race in Russia will be held June 2-3.

The Skolkovo Innovation Center will host the Formula Drone race, Russia’s largest competition of unmanned aerial vehicles, on June 2-3. This is the first international championship of drone racing in Russia: over 40 of the best pilots from 20 cities of Russia and CIS countries will battle it out in the air.

According to the organizers, the Formula Drone can be compared to the Formula car race series – it is also a vivid racing show. However, it differs in that viewers can experience total immersion in the proceedings on the "race track" (i.e. in the air) by seeing the race through the eyes of the “driver” when using special glasses. One of the best drone racers, Vladimir Meshcheryakov, who won the bronze medal in the drone world championship races in Dubai in March 2016, will be a featured guest of the event.

The first official Russian championship is being administered by the organizing committee of the Startup Village annual international conference, which is the largest startup conference for technology entrepreneurs in Russia and the CIS. Members of the committee include Skolkovo and the international racing operator Motorsport Media & Marketing Group.
