Two teenagers died in an explosion in Irchi Kazak Street in Makhachkala, a source in Dagestani law enforcement has told Interfax. He said that the bomb went off at about 12:20 p.m. at the entrance of a housewares shop.

The explosive device that went off in the center of Makhachkala on Wednesday is believed to have been planted in a box or package, Interfax was told at the Interior Ministry press center.

"Someone left the bomb on the roadside in a box or package," a spokesman said.

Two teenagers who tried to open the dangerous object died at the scene. Two of their fiends were wounded and later hospitalized. The killed and wounded were aged 15 to 17, the spokesman said.

The scene has been cordoned off and the details of the incident are being probed.
