On Feb. 8, the Olympic city of Sochi welcomes ballet stars from the UK with a gala concert as a part of the Opening Ceremony of UK-Russia Year of Culture. During the concert, there will be a symbolic transfer of the Olympic flame from London, the host city of the last Olympic Games, to Sochi.

Stars from both the English National Ballet and Russian stars will appear on the stage of Sochi’s Winter Theater. Dancers include Matthew Golding, Yonah Acosta, Zdenek Konvalina, Ulyana Lopatkina, Denis Matvienko, and Kristina Krestova.

The gala concert will feature a range of styles, uniting classical dance, modern ballet and folk dances. The Bolshoi’s Anastasia Stashkevich and Yonah Acosta of the English National Ballet will dance the charming pas de Diane from the ballet Esmeralda, and Kristina Kretova will be Odile to Matthew Golding’s Prince in a scene from Swan Lake. Irina Perren and Marat Shemuinov will dance the adagio from Spartak; a scene from Le Corsair will be performed by Anna Tikhomirova from the Bolshoi and Denis Matvienko from the Mariinsky.
