Putin orders sudden operability test of Russian armed forces

Russian President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin instructed the Defense Ministry on Wednesday to conduct a surprise comprehensive operability test of the forces of the Western and Central Military Districts and a number of the armed forces' branches, Defense Minister Army Gen. Sergei Shoigu said on Wednesday.

"In line with the Russian president's directive, the forces of the Western Military District and military units and arms stationed on its territory, the 2nd Army of the Central Military District, the commands of the Aerospace Defense Forces, the Airborne Forces, the Long-Range and Military Transport Aviation were surprisingly alerted today at 2:00 p.m.," Shoigu said at a conference at the Defense Ministry on Wednesday.
