The British firm Zaha Hadid Architects has won an international design competition for the Sberbank technopark building at the Skolkovo Innovation Center. The jury announced the results at a press conference on April 20.
"We have assessed the advanced achievements of modern architectural science to create a unique facility," said Sberbank Board Chairman German Gref. "Sberbank's technopark aims to become the company's center of competence and a driver of innovation in the field of IT-technology."
Gref also said that the new technopark would be responsible for all future technical content for the bank and will serve as something akin to the bank’s “brain.” According to him, the plan is for the new building to accommodate between 10,000 and 12,000 employees. The project will house an R&D department, which will be engaged in research and engineering development, and a subsidiary bank, Sberbank Technology.
The organizers did not disclose the commencement date of the technopark's construction.
"Zaha Hadid Architects has developed a unique design for the technopark complex combined into a single architectural ensemble, which harmoniously fits into the architectural environment of the Skolkovo Center while meeting all modern requirements," Sergei Kuznetsov, Moscow's chief architect, said. "This will definitely be a landmark event in the architectural history of the city."
The technopark building will be the second building by the Zaha Hadid Architects in Moscow. The first structure, a business center, opened at the end of 2015.
