A Syktyvkar pizzeria, Dodo Pizza, has begun delivering food via flying robotic drones. The first delivery by drone took place on Saturday, June 21. As reported by information agency FlashNord, the drone managed the task in just half an hour, delivering a pizza to the central square.
The pizzeria’s management plans to make delivery by drone a regular service. In order to get a “pizza from the sky”, a customer will need to make an order by phone. Once the pizza is delivered to the specified address, the manager will notify the customer to go out and receive the order. The copter drops the pizza box by cable along with a check for payment. The device has an onboard video camera installed that allows the operator to see when the client comes out and when to release the order.
The Russian technology company CopterExpress developed the unit. The copter can top out at about 25 miles (40 km) per hour. In addition, the device has an alarm system installed – when you try to pull the rope, an emergency mechanism is abruptly triggered, releasing the rope.
