Russian official received a bribe of 2 bags of Whiskas

A former chief specialist of the preventive medicine department at the Kaluga Region administration's veterinary committee has been found guilty of receiving three bribes, some qualifying as quite large. The official was also found to have committed forgery while in office, the region's investigative committee reported on its website.

According to investigators, after uncovering food-storage violations by a commercial organization, the official asked its director for a bribe in exchange for reducing the penalties down to a small fine.

“On Sept. 29, 2015, while in a car belonging to the director of the commercial organization, the convicted official received a bribe in the amount of 33,000 rubles ($514) and a bottle of whisky costing around 774 rubles ($12),” the statement said.

The official also received two bags of Whiskas cat food as a bribe from a private entrepreneur in Obninsk.

"Additionally... [he] received cash in the amount of 5,000 rubles ($78) as well as a bottle of cognac and a box of chocolates worth about 790 rubles ($12) from the director of a food shop in Obninsk in exchange for not initiating administrative proceedings against this shop's director," the investigative committee said.
