Alamy / Legion-MediaSamara (652 miles southeast of Moscow) has been named the third best city for shopping in Europe, according to a study by the London-based property consultancy Knight Frank. The ranking of the best high-quality retail spaces in European cities with a population of one million or more includes five Russian cities, the news website Lenta.ru reports.
Also making the top 10 cities for great shopping are St. Petersburg (4th), Yekaterinburg (5th), Nizhny Novgorod (8th) and Moscow (10th). Despite being more popular with shoppers, Milan and Paris both ranked lower in the study.
The list was topped by Warsaw, which has 8,858 square feet of retail space per one thousand residents. Madrid came in second place, with 7,815 square feet. According to analysts, Samara has 5,995 square feet of quality retail property per one thousand residents. Paris, Milan and London, which consumers traditionally think of as shopping destinations, did not make the top ten, ranking 11th, 13th and 23rd, respectively.
Knight Frank's analysts say that Moscow may join the top 5 European cities in terms of development of trade infrastructure within the next three years.
