At the Bolshiye Isady Market in Astrakhan, the smell of Oriental sweets, Caucasian bread, and fresh fruits wafts throughout the air. Since the 16th century, the market—where Oriental color meets Russian traditions—has stood on the same spot in this city, located on the upper part of the Volga River (1400 km from Moscow).
