National Geographic listed Vladivostok among the 10 most beautiful oceanfront cities in the world. The city lies on the edge of the Pacific Ocean and is sometimes called “Russia’s San Francisco” for its steep slopes, pointed mountains and indented coastline.
Vladivostok is home to the Russian Pacific Fleet, and the most easterly terminus of the famed Trans-Siberia Railway, which links it to distant Moscow, more than 5,600 miles away. Being close to the United States, Japan and China, Vladivostok is popular among foreign tourists.
The peak season in Primorsky Territory is from August to October, when visitors can enjoy a combination of golden autumnal leaves and warm weather. The climate is another thing Vladivostok has in common with San Francisco. In September the weather often allows for swimming in the ocean and sunbathing. In October, when the trees in Moscow are almost bare, Primorsky Territory experiences its annual peak of sunshine.
