On October 15, a group of warships led by the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier had been sent to the Mediterranean. The group aslo includes the Pyotr Veliky battle cruiser, the Severomorsk and Admiral Kulakov anti-submarine destroyer and support vessels.
According to data of the Northern Fleet’s press office, the group's main task is to hold drills and strengthen capabilities.
NATO officials have expressed concerns that the group could be used to support Damascus in the ongoing Syrian civil war.
