The administration of the Shumikhino District, Kurgan Region, has issued a warning for local residents after attacks on humans by a badger and a raccoon dog were reported. Both events took place on July 11. The first of the attacks happened in the area between the villages of Rodniki and Gorshkovo.

“A local resident was walking along a road when he saw a badger approaching him. The animal attacked the man, bit him on the arms and hands and ran away. The injured man was taken to hospital,” reads a message on the website of the local environmental protection department.

Supervisory bodies were immediately notified about the incident and game wardens searched the area. Local residents were warned about the dangerous animal.

Two days later, the badger was sighted in a local village. It was shot and the body disposed of.

The second attack was reported in the same district. A local man was picking berries in the forest when a raccoon dog attacked him. He took cover in his car, but the animal did not calm down and tried to get into the vehicle before running into the forest. The man was not injured.
