Russia-Netherlands Year

Following France, Italy, Spain and Germany, it is now the Netherlands’ turn to embark on a year of cultural exchange with Russia. A series of events both in the Netherlands and Russia began in March 2013 and will continue until November.

In early April, Russian President Vladimir Putin wrapped up his trip to Amsterdam, where he opened the program for the Russian-Dutch Bilateral Year.

Cooperation between museums based in both countries peaked in 2009, with the opening of a branch of the Hermitage Museum in Amsterdam. Since then, thousands of visitors have had the privilege of viewing works from the Hermitage’s vast collection – in particular, paintings by Impressionists whose works are rarely seen in Dutch museums.

The Russo-Dutch Cultural Exchange Year opened at the Hermitage-Amsterdam with an exhibition entitled “Peter the Great, an Inspired Tsar.” The event consists of not only the fine art area, but also a space dedicated to economics - not to mention a diverse selection of concerts, shows and festivals.
