Most Russian regions are named after their capitals, but Amur Region is an exception, because the Amur River gave it its name. It is the natural border between this far eastern region and China.
The capital of Amur Region is the city of Blagoveshchensk. Walking along Amur River’s embankment you can literally see China – the city of Heihe is on the opposite bank and shines beautifully at night with its lights.
Amur Region is also famous for the fact that, once a year – from mid-July to mid-August – the Komarov’s Lotus, one of the most beautiful representatives of its species, blooms there.
