Belgorod
Alexander Shein/Getty ImagesThis area on the border with Ukraine is historically known as a strategic point. During World War II, Belgorod was on the front lines of the ‘Fiery Bulge’ (also known as the ‘Kursk Bulge’). One of the decisive battles with the Germans, the ‘Prokhorov Tank Battle’, took place in Belgorod Region, to which the largest diorama in Russia is dedicated.
The area is also known for its black soil. There, they joke that you can just put a stick in the soil and it will sprout!
You will be surprised, but Belgorod Region is also part of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly.
