Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Region

Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Region was named after the Khanty and Mansi, the indigenous peoples who live here. Historically, this area is called Yugra, and it is the oldest land that has seen mammoths. By the way, seven life-sized bronze prehistoric animals “roam” along Samarovsky Hill in the territory of the Archeopark complex in Khanty-Mansiysk. 

Although the capital of the region is Khanty-Mansiysk, Surgut is the largest city. In the 19th century, it was a place of exile for Russian revolutionaries and, today, it is one of the most economically developed cities in the country. Yugra is the champion of oil production in our country.

And don’t forget! One must try fish in the region! The local specialty is stroganina, thinly sliced frozen raw fish.
