Komi (Republic)

The Republic of Komi embodies the harsh Russian North. In size, it would fit France, Germany and Poland combined. A large part of it is covered by impenetrable taiga. It’s not a surprise that it was there, not far from Sindorskoye Lake, in a peat bog, archaeologists discovered an 8,000-year-old ski fragment, which is twice as old as the Egyptian pyramids!

The Komi symbol is weathering pillars on the Man-Pupu-Ner plateau, with which the legends of the Mansi people are associated.
