Pskov Region on the western border of Russia has historically been an important outpost. The famous fortress of Izborsk, for example, withstood eight serious sieges by the knights of the Livonian Order, as well as many other attacks. (It was here, by the way, according to legend, that Rurik’s brother Truvor went to rule).
Pskov is a city with a stunning kremlin and ancient churches, which are all included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. And one of the main attractions of Pskov Region are, of course, the Pushkin Mountains. Three estates (Mikhailovskoye, Trigorskoye and Petrovskoye), which are inextricably linked with the biography and work of A. S. Pushkin. The grave of the poet is also located here in the Svyatogorsk monastery.
