New Year in Russia is the most important holiday of the year. So it’s a time for spending lots of money on gifts, the festive table, parties and fireworks. As the well-known Russian proverb says: “The way you spend New Year's Eve is the way you will spend the rest of the year.”
Professional services network Deloitte released an annual report about Russian consumers’ anticipated budgeting, shopping, and purchase behaviors in the run-up to New Year. According to Deloitte, in general Russians are ready to spend 17,600 rubles or $299 per person on this year’s holiday. That’s 600 rubles or $10 up on last year.
This year’s dream gift is money – 69 percent prefer it. The wish-list also includes travel (41%) and smartphones (37%). But most Russians will get candy or cosmetics, and only 31 percent money.
And if you want to know where you can meet Russians except Russia, the most popular winter destinations are Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey. But many Russians are planning to spend the New Year’s holiday at home.
