Orenburg Region

Orenburg Region is located on the border with Kazakhstan. Orenburg itself (formerly Chkalov in Soviet times) was founded in the 18th century in order to establish trade relations with Asian countries and protect the southern territories of the country from nomads. It is also unofficially referred to as the Asian capital of Russia.

The city is famous for its down shawls. The mohair of Orenburg goats is very thin, which makes products made from it extremely soft. 

And, from May to June, feather grass blooms incredibly beautifully in the steppes of the Orenburg Reserve. The steppe landscape at this moment resembles rocky ocean waves, shimmering in different colors.
