Russia Beyond the Headlines (RBTH), an internationally recognized multimedia project dedicated to Russia, is pleased to announce the launch of two podcast series available for free download on iTunes: RBTH on Music (“Balalike it!”) and RBTH on Literature (“Russian Bookshelf”).

RBTH on Music: “Balalike it!” is a podcast that aims to introduce listeners to the world of Russian contemporary music. The podcast will feature episodes dedicated to different musical genres – from jazz to experimental trip-hop – and showcase the great diversity characteristic of Russia’s musicians.

RBTH on Literature: “Russian Bookshelf” is an audiobook series recorded for the enjoyment of those who wish to become more familiar with Russian modern literature. The podcast is designed to provide listeners with an alternative experience of short stories and novels written by Russian authors and translated into English. Each story is read by a narrator and recorded with musical accompaniment and sound effects.

“We are proud to introduce RBTH’s brand new audio podcasts for iTunes on contemporary Russian music and literature. Subscribe to ‘Balalike it!’ and you will be able to sample the fascinating diversity of modern Russian tracks on your iPhones and iPads. Want to become more familiar with modern Russian literature? If you don't feel quite ready for Lev Tolstoy's "War and Peace," ‘Russian Bookshelf’ will make your encounter with Russian literature even more exciting,” said Elena Potapova, the executive multimedia editor at RBTH.

Each podcast is created and produced by RBTH, and they will also available on RBTH’s main website (rbth.ru). Content is carefully selected and curated by experts in Russian music and literature, and each series is presented in a lovely package to enhance the user experience.

More RBTH podcasts, including a collection of quotes by prominent Russians, a video series featuring modern art and film reviews, and a series of master classes with useful tips for foreigners in Russia are planned for release in the near future.
