"Milking" sturgeons: How Russian black caviar is produced

Black caviar is one of the leading Russian brands. It is an exclusive product sold at astronomical prices. The minimum price is $1000 per kilogram.

Black caviar is one of the most expensive food products in the world. Including the cost of delivery to the International Space Station, the price of one kilogram comes to around $10,000. In shops back on Earth, “black gold” is a bit cheaper, starting at $1000. Non-pasteurized caviar can last 9 months, while pasteurized caviar can last up to 2 years.

Russia's largest company for raising sturgeon in a hatchery and harvesting black caviar is located in Cherepovets (300 miles from Moscow). The waterways' advantageous location next to the local hydroelectric station that provides hot water allows this thermophilic precious breed of fish to be raised all-year round.
