My life in Russia: Andras Karpati from Budapest, Hungary

"My life in Russia" is a video blog about expats living in Russia.

Andras grew up in Budapest, studied in London, and over the past 10 years has been living in many different countries. Russia is one of them. Although Andras recently accepted a job offer in Australia, he keeps coming to Moscow every month. Andras is married to a Russian woman he met when they were both studying in London.

“For the first couple of years we had a long-distance relationship, but when she finished university we decided it would be best for both of us if we tried our luck here in Moscow. And we’re not disappointed, it’s been great.”

Andras is a lawyer by trade, but on moving to Moscow he started teaching English and even set up a small language school of his own.

“Through teaching English I met a Russian businessman who was looking for someone to represent him and run his business in Australia.”

Even though Andras is hugely fond of Australia, he says that he still prefers Moscow for its diverse cultural and social life.

"If you come here expecting to see what you get back home, you probably won’t enjoy it. But if you come here with an open mind and are willing to adapt to the local way of life, then you’ll have a great time."
