Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has removed the governor of Novosibirsk region Viktor Tolokonsky and made his deputy Vasily Yurchenko acting head of region.
The Kremlin’s press service announced that Tolokonsky had submitted a resignation letter.
Later Medvedev signed an order making Tolokonsky the presidential envoy in the Siberian federal region, Interfax reported.
Tolokonsky told the journalists that he accepted the position to in order to "increase the quality of governing in all Siberian regions".
