The countries plan to hold additional ground and naval exercises this year.

The Russian and Chinese armed forces plan to increase the number of joint exercises in 2016, Russian Defense Minister Gen Sergey Shoigu was cited by TASS as saying.

“We highly appreciate a high level of Russian-Chinese contacts both at the state and defense levels,” Shoigu said after meeting his Chinese counterpart Chang Wanquan, according to the report. “This year we are going to hold more exercises and events than in the past years.

Shoigu added that the countries would hold both ground and naval exercises. “Certainly, the aim is to strengthen mutually beneficial relations of partnership,” he added.
